Black velvet. (An original miniature from my “Flower Miniatures” series)

In this piece, I set out to convey the rich, velvety allure of a black petunia. By layering markers in varying shades of charcoal and pitch black, the subtle curves of each petal emerge, inviting a closer look at its captivating depth. The circular cutout mat enhances the flower’s dramatic presence, highlighting the bloom’s nearly monochromatic elegance.

The neutral MDF frame with glass and a complementary mat provides protection and focus, allowing “Black Velvet” to stand alone as a statement piece or harmonize with other miniatures for a cohesive botanical collection. With basic care—shielding it from direct sunlight and excessive humidity—this artwork will retain its mysterious charm for years to come.
